Léon interactive light by Lewis Power was inspired by the intangibility and etherial nature of the glow of light cast through smoke and the haunting notes of the musical instrument known as a Theramin.

Lewis Power
Invented by Léon Theramin in 1919, the musical instrument was revolutionary for its time as it appeared to create music out of thin air. Similar,y, users are required to engage with the light in a non-traditional way leaving behind more conformist archetypes of home lighting such as a physical switch. As light is intangible, it is apt that the switch should be too, so operate the unit, the user lifts and lowers their hands over two proximity sensors which control the light’s hue and brightness. Through this poetic interaction with light, the designer hopes that the user will find a renewed sensitivity to the lighting atmospheres they create.
