I wrote about these stunning playhouses from Modern Playhouse last year. At the time, the designs were quite large and intended to be permanent structures.  This somewhat restricted their use and required a certain amount of commitment to a space.

Now the company has partnered with industrial designer Svend Nielsen to develop a smaller, collapsable version of its sleek, minimal and eco-friendly playhouses called the Puzzle Playhouse.  This version makes it easy to carve out a play area indoors with chairs, blankets, and a few couch cushions.  The Puzzle Playhouse is easy to assemble or take down and is perfect for those with limited square footage or outdoor space.

It's turning out to be Wooden Animal Day.

Following on from the previous post, here is a similar collection of wooden animals this time from Areaware. These adorable animals by Karl Zahn are made from new beech wood and include a set of dovetail animals which must be slotted together, as well as stackable crocodiles.

This collection of sculptures are designed by Linnea Gits and Peter Dunham, the founders of the Chicago design firm called Uusi and are available exclusively from DWR.   The Moderne Wood animals are made from American black walnut and white oak veneer and are finished with nontoxic, odorless mineral oil.  These woods were chosen for their striking grain and because they are materials that have a rich history in the production of American-made objects.  Careful attention is paid to the direction in which the wood grain falls across the form of each animal, making each sculpture a unique piece.  Very simple assembly is required; the animals are comprised of a few pieces that need to be slotted together.

The AKA collection of chairs are designed by French designer Jean Marie Massaud.  Initially launched in 2010, this iteration sees the development of a new variation on the series with the use of a plexiglas seat built onto the same solid, bleached oak legs as the original chair.  The new chair is lightweight and streamlined and is available with or without arms. The chair is available in a variety of colors from Skitsch.

I'm not really sold on "celebrity designers", so I always feel guilty about the fact that I like Victoria Beckham's diffusion line so much.  See more after the jump.

The MillMii is a manual pepper grinder with a difference. For those with arthritis or otherwise limited use of their hands, the difficulty of working a manual pepper grinder means they're relegated to using battery-operated ones, which leave behind a larger carbon footprint. Nathan Bestwick, an industrial design student at the UK's Sheffield Hallam University, noticed the lacuna in the market and designed a manual grinder that can be operated without the user needing to form a grip: the device is held between two palms and rolled to create the grinding action.  Oh, and they look pretty cool too.

The MillMii is available here.

Burberry Prorsum's collection places the emphasis on the hips creating an exaggerated pear-shape.  Together with unusually placed ruffles and peplums (pepla?), the resulting silhouette is often awkward, but for the most part still works.  Twee animal prints feature throughout.

As well as looking stylish, this multi-functional side table is a triple threat. In addition to the usable surface, it has a storage space underneath its removable tabletop and the top also serves as a tray.  Made of 3D veneer, MDF and steel bolt, the James table from Gridy is, unfortunately, still a prototype.
This is a bit odd.  Last year, we featured this chair called the Lastika which was designed by Velichko Velikov for Italian manufacturer LAGO.  The chair has a circular frame across which elastic bands are threaded. Although the chair is called the Lastika, we called the post Bounce! for obvious reasons.

I recently read about a chair which was exhibited at the 2012 Maison&Objet show called Bounce and erroneously thought it was a update of the Lastika.  It isn't.   The Bounce by Fenny Ganatra has a more substantial base, but is essentially the same premise.  The Bounce is being launched with a lot of fanfare and a flashy website which can be seen here.

There have been lots of covetable collaborations for grown-ups recently, but nothing for children. Enter Diane von Furstenberg who has designed a collection for GapKids which will hit stores on March 15. We were given a sneak peek of the collection yesterday and it looks like it is full of bright primary colours and patterns. The collection (which appears to be for girls only) will include dresses and separates as well as some shoes and sandals.

I haven't felt inspired by any of the shows I've seen over the last few days but this wasn't bad.  Not too in love with the volume on the coats or the mullet hems (not shown), but he opened with my favourite colour, so how could I resist?  Lots of clean lines and graphic prints from Narciso Rodriguez.  See more after the jump.

While it started off looking and feeling more like a resort than an A|W collection with its botanical prints and punchy colours, this offering from Preen quickly devolved into a beautifully sophisticated show.  One of the best of the week thus far.

Before my eyesight degenerated to the state it is now, I discovered a useful trick.  Making a fist and peeping through the hole helps you see more clearly.  These glasses from Kamigu are based on that very idea.  While  they look like a strange fashion statement, they are actually a very serious tool as the 1mm holes allow you to focus without lenses.  The glasses are intended to temporarily help you ride out a crisis when your glasses are broken in a disaster or accident.
