The Ocean View Club

The islands of Caribbean are really outdoing themselves on the small, intimate boutique hotel front. One place is still on our radar in the two years since we wrote about it is Belle Mont Farm in St Kitts, and we will feature another breathtaking property later in the year, but first up is this report in two parts on our new favourite: The Ocean View Club.

We fell in love with this property - a small, family-run hotel located in the Bahamas - several years ago drawn initially by the stylish but relaxed atmosphere. The owners seem to relish the exclusivity of the resort so we are not sure they'll appreciate us publicising it here, but nevertheless the property - both inside and out - is too stunning not to be featured.

The hotel is made up of an eclectic mix of accommodations: there are five cabins, which include two tent cottages and three beach shacks, and seven rooms which vary in size from suites to ocean view rooms to small kids' rooms. While they may be called "shacks", this is as far from roughing it as you can get. The cabins are beautifully appointed with four poster beds, ensuite bathrooms and unobstructed views of the ocean. Some have large sun decks and outdoor clawfoot tubs. Ocean view rooms are located in the main house as are the kids' rooms are cozy. There is also a small restaurant on site which caters to house guests and which serves a combination of locally-grown and sourced produce. All in all, The Ocean View Club encapsulates the best the Caribbean has to offer: exclusivity without sacrificing style. Look out for part two next week.

Kinfolk x Zespà Sneaker

The fashion sneaker trend shows no sign of abating. Kinfolk have partnered with French brand Zespà to produce this exclusive shoe, the Zespà, Aix-en-Provence. The sneakers are made by hand in France from top quality leather and other materials. They are completely lined in leather and the Kinfolk logo is embossed in gold on the tongue.

The Zespà, Aix-en-Provence comes in beautiful blue box with extra pair of laces and a dust bag.

We started blogging here more than ten years ago.

10!

Our first post went live on September 12, 2008 (you can have a read of it here if you'd like) and at that time, blogging was a relatively new platform and one we thought we would use to keep in touch with far flung family and friends. We quickly realised the website had to have a definite focus, and while others have thrived with a mix of personal and impersonal posts, we decided to focus on the things we loved.

2018 was a quiet year as we faced personal as well as professional challenges and we apologise for the dearth of posts. We are working on bringing the blog to life which is exciting and exhausting in equal measures. We used to pride ourselves on the fact that we would post on a daily basis and while our plan is to continue in 2019 we will probably do so on a scaled back schedule, at least initially. As we gear up to return, we are struck by the number of first-gen bloggers and online magazines like Design*Sponge that are also slowing or winding down, not to mention the recent layoffs at behemoths like BuzzFeed and The Huffington Post, all signalling a shift in the electronic publishing sphere.

Thousands of posts and hundreds of thousands of views later, we hope you'll stay with us on this journey for however long it continues and wherever it may lead.
