Years after her groundbreaking I Am Not A Plastic Bag collection, which was one of the first to highlight the environmental damage caused by single-use shopping bags, British designer Anya Hindmarch has returned with her latest sustainable fashion initiative, “I Am A Plastic Bag”.

Although some are now questioning the true benefit of reusing plastics claiming the development of biodegradable material would be the better, more sustainable option, Hindmarch and her team spent two years researching and determining how best to use the recycled plastic bottles from which each tote is created.

The bag debuted at London fashion week but did not appear on the catwalk. Instead, Hindmarch’s London stores had their windows filled with a total of 90,000 plastic bottles, the equivalent number of plastic bottles that are purchased globally every six seconds.⁣
