This is more like it.

After disparaging Virgil Abloh’s handbag a few weeks ago, we are feeling bit more optimistic by this offering from Nendo who we have written about many times before but usually only in terms of furniture and design and never in terms of clothing or fashion.

The Japanese studio has designed a collection of handbags crafted from a single sheet of laser-cut leather for Italian online platform Up To You Anthology. The collection is called Mai after the Japanese word "ichi-mai", which translates as "one sheet".

The bags are crafted from a single sheet of laser-cut leather and assembled at home. As they are flat, they offer savings by simplifying the manufacturing process, reducing storage and inventory  requirements and shipping costs.

The Mai collection is available in a number of different sizes and colours, including mustard yellow, dark brown, khaki and teal, achieved by dying the leather with a plant-derived tannin.
