We don’t feature a lot of men’s fashion here but we loved the painterly feel of this collection by Dior men’s Artistic Director Kim Jones for Dior's spring/summer 2021 season.

The collection entitled Portrait of an Artist was developed in collaboration with Ghanaian portrait painter Amoako Boafo and is based on his Black Diaspora series which explores his identity and black masculinity. Jones has used Boafo’s work as the essential foundation for the collection by incorporating his portraits or by reinterpreting his prints and palette creating a circularity and neat confluence. Colours were taken from Boafo's vivid, near-surreal hues including neon yellow, blue, coral and green, while prints were drawn from the graphic patterns that characterise his work. A jacquard of paintbrush strokes based on a photograph taken by Jones of the richly textured canvases in Boafo’s studio was translated into printed and layered ribbed knits which themselves have the appearance of a painted canvas.
