Valentino presented its Spring 2020 collection at Les Invalides, and Pierpaolo Piccioli opened the show with a mini collection of dramatic all-white looks. Here, he used the humble shirt as the guiding influence and the emphasis was on the shape and volume of the clothing.
Wrap dresses and balloon sleeves were combined with gold accessories in the form of oversized earrings, bracelets and pendant necklaces. The collection moved on from white with an injection of defiant colours: black with mauve and pink sequins, flashes of neon green, peach and plum in between. Dresses were made from an airy georgette fabric which gave them a lovely fluidity while jungle prints inspired by 19th century artist Henri Rousseau were used as the basis of the patterned pieces in the collection.
