This contemporary, cylinder-backed armchair is by Waka Waka, a Los Angeles based studio that specialises in wooden furniture and functional objects.
Designed and hand crafted by Shin Okuda, the chair is an exploration of other well-known models but has been reworked to show the possibilities that can be created through the use of exaggerated lines, volume and functional needs.
The inclusion of the cylinder was an intentional one designed as a move away from the expected linear silhouette. The cylinder forms a single, contiguous line with the armrests and both are supported by a generous seat bed. The curved form reoccurs often in Waka Waka’s designs and creates a 3-dimensional element.

The chair’s components are CNC machined in Baltic birch plywood with oak dowels and a natural oil finish.
