Interlockables collection, designed by New York-based design brand House of RoRo is a wonderful mix of whimsy and function. Founded by interior designer Anne-Sophie Rosseel (who also founded Rosseel Studio), the child-sized line of furniture is designed to coexist harmoniously in so-called adult spaces and has been developed using sustainable processes intended to reduce overconsumption.

The result is a combination of toy storage with functional furniture geared to reduce clutter without sacrificing design. Of consideration was the speed with which children grow and the potential short lifespan of the pieces, which are made from FSC- and TSCA-certified plywood and come flat packed in 100% recyclable packaging to further reduce the materials' usage and carbon footprint. On arrival, the components are slotted together like a puzzle by the user.

In addition to the sustainably-sourced, low-toxicity wood, Audrey Louise Reynolds, an artisanal dyer, was tapped to develop food-grade vegan wood stains specifically for House of RoRo using natural pigment sources such as mushrooms, flowers, mica, and moss mixed with a bio-based wood finish. The specially-developed dyes are zero VOC and give the collection a translucent but bright finish.

There is very little waste as the CNC offcuts are turned into colour samples shaped like small toys and puzzles.
