In a brilliant, stylistic move, designer YuoNing Chien extends the geometric shapes found on the surface of her side tables into the associated supporting legs thereby turning what would typically be negative space into tangible material.
Called the Designated Side Tables, the Milan-based, Taiwanese designer debuted the pieces at Milan Design Week 2024. Crafted from solid pine wood, a material prized for its timelessness and durability, the tables are formed from geometric shapes with coloured cut-outs in the table's surface, that are intended for storing items like a vase or a phone. The shapes extend through the surface of the table to become the legs of the piece. This seamless integration of design elements serves not only as a visual delight but also as a testament to the thoughtful craftsmanship that defines the collection. The Designated Side Tables combine aesthetics with function creating a versatile, and beautiful piece of furniture.
