Let's start our coverage of New York Fashion Week off with a absolutely stunning collection from Robert Rodriguez.  With a neutral palette largely made up of blacks and whites, the collection features a mix of body-con and pretty layered dresses, interesting sheer-panelled cape jackets and beautiful leather jackets.

In 1999 Finnish designer Harri Koskinen created a candlelit glass lantern called the Lantern lamp for iittala.   The lamp has been re-designed and is now available in an electric version which will be presented from today until September 6 to 10 at the Maison & Objet.   The new version of the lamp is available in three finishes: copper, white and transparent.  

This, the diploma project of Mugi Yamamoto, is a compact inkjet printer which ingenuously sits on top of the pile of paper on which it feeds.

Yamamoto developed the concept at Ecole Cantonale D'Art Lausanne in Switzerland, where he studied industrial and product design.  Instead of a paper tray, the Stack has a set of rubber wheels on the bottom that feed paper into the machine, effectively minimizing the amount of space the printer occupies.  During printing, the paper disappears into the printer and exits on top, where it creates a new pile. The printer slowly moves down the stack until no paper is left. The removal of the bulky paper tray enabled Yamamoto to design the printer with a streamlined silhouette and avoids the need for frequent reloading. Currently, the Stack is still in prototype form, but the designer says he is hoping to manufacture it eventually.

While the world waits with bated breath for the launch of her much hyped collaboration with H+M, Isabel Marant continues to impress with her completely covetable Resort 2014 collection. 

Karim Rashid recently put his mark on the Float sofa for Sancal, a contemporary couch with multiple uses.   Available in three sizes: two sofas with a low back and one sofa with a high back, the high-backed sofa is intended to provide a modicum of privacy when used in public spaces and in addition to the straight arms, comes with the option of an inclined arm which turns the sofa into a divan.  Two hangers can also be attached to the high back to provide storage area for scarves or bags.  

We love the bright colour combinations and the inviting curved lines of the sofas.  Each component - arms, seat, back and headrest - can be upholstered in a different fabric.  Rashid has also designed a series of patterns for the cushions and headrests which are inspired by Egypt, where he was born.
