There is something primitive and compelling about the sculptures of Aleph Geddis which live at the intersection of traditional methods and modernist forms.
His work is informed by a lifetime fascination with the foundational structures of the world, drawing inspiration from the stylized naturalism of Northwest coast Native carvings, as well as his travels in Japan. His recent works reference Platonic solids - that special class of three-dimensional, geometric shapes - which Geddis feels evoke a truth beyond human subjectivity.
